About Volusia County

Bahia Real Estate has listings throughout the Orlando Region of Florida.  One of the areas we have many listings in is Volusia County.

Volusia County is located on the Atlantic Coast in the northwest of the Orlando region.  Volusia County is most famous for Daytona Beach, the headquarters of NASCAR and the home of the Daytona International Speedway.  Even from the 1920s, Daytona Beach was known as the “World’s Most Famous Beach.”  Daytona is a “seasonal town”, experiencing a big influx of tourists during the motor racing season. This is something to think about if you’re considering purchasing an investment property in Daytona – investing in rental accommodation such as condos or some other type of tourist accommodation is likely to pay off.

The largest city in Volusia County is Deltona, which had a population of 82,788 at the 2006 census (however, as Florida’s population is growing rapidly, the figure is now likely to be higher).  Deltona is mostly a “dormitory suburb” or “bedroom town” for those who commute to other centres in Orlando for work.  This means that Deltona is a popular place for families to live in; young families living in single income homes make up the greatest percentage of Deltona’s population.

Ormond Beach is another popular urban area in Volusia County.  Ormond Beach is considered by some to be a suburb of Daytona Beach.  From the end of the Civil War, Ormond Beach has been a popular tourist resort overlooking the lagoon of the Halifax River and the white sands of the beach itself.  J.D. Rockefeller owned a winter resort in Ormond Beach, called The Casements, which is now owned by the city itself as a cultural centre.  Unfortunately, the other great historical site, the historic Ormond Hotel built in the 1880s, was destroyed in a fire in 1992.

Other centres in Volusia County include Holly Hill, Oak Hill, Lake Helen, Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet.  Ponce Inlet is, of course, named for the Spanish explorer, Ponce De Leon, who named Florida on his search for the fountain of youth.

No matter which part of Volusia County you have an interest in, Bahia Real Estate has many listings of many types, and can help you find the property that’s perfect for you.
