On our lists at Bahia Realty Group, we cover a number of towns and cities in the Northwest Orlando area. Four of the main areas we have Homes for Sale for are Apopka, Zellwood, Mt Dora and Ocoee.
Apopka is known as the “indoor foliage capital of the world,” so if you love houseplants – and there are plenty of people like you – then you’ll lots to choose from in the garden stores around the city and plenty of fellow enthusiasts. The name Apopka means “place to eat potatoes” in the original language of the area. This city had a population of 35, 563 at the 2006 census. As the population at the time of the 2000 census was 26, 642, its clear to see that Apopka is a growing town that is a booming area for real estate and real estate investment.
Zellwood is a smaller rural area on Highway 92 as you travel out of the central Orlando area. Zellwood is an agricultural area with a particular focus on growing corn – the Zellwood Sweet Corn Festival is one of the annual highlights of this town. And as the world is turning more and more to sweet corn growing as a source of producing biodiesel, this is a smart time to invest in a corn farm – corn/maize isn’t black gold, but it is gold oil!
Mt Dora is located at the northern end of the “Orange Blossom Trail” that leads from Kissimmee along Highway 92. Mt Dora is a classic town full of traditional southern charm, named after an old-fashioned southern belle, Dora Ann Drawdy, who kept a homestead in the area and offered hospitality and friendship to the surveyors mapping and naming the area at the time – a tradition that has remained in Mt Dora.
Ocoee was founded by a local farmer in the 1850s. This pioneer, Mr Starke, found that the clean waters and air of the water were a healthy haven from the malarial swamps he had come from. And the air and water in the area are still fantastic. As it’s located on the shores of Lake Starke, Ocoee has plenty of scope for enjoying the water in whatever water sports you prefer.
